Natalie Gulbis, who was looking like she would become golf's Anna Kournikova, finally broke into the winner's circle at the Evian Masters, and into the Top-20.
The biggest mover on the money list this week, following her victory at the Evian Masters, was Natalie Gulbis, who jumped in from outside the top-20 to 15th. She also had a huge jump in the Rolex World Ranking, moving up some 12 spots to 27th position. Juli Inkster also had a great week. She finished T3 with Lorena Ochoa and Ji-Yai Shin.
LPGA stats leaders so far this year, through last week are: Karen Sjodin, average driving distance (276.6); Lorena Ochoa, greens in regulation (75.4%); Young Kim, putting average (28.27 per round); Lorena Ochoa, scoring average (69.96); Won Lee, driving accuracy (83.37%); and Annika Sorenstam, sand saves (60.9%).
Lorena Ochoa and Angela Stanford remain one and two in Top-10 Finishes; Ochoa with 13 and Stanford with nine. Unlike Ochoa, who has three victories, Stanford is yet to taste victory, which is also why Ochoa sits atop the money list and Stanford is currently 18th. Continued solid play will help her break through and join the growing list of this year's champions.
LPGA Trivia: There have been 12 aces this year on the LPGA tour, by 12 different players.
The next major championship is on deck this week, the Ricoh Women's British Open. It will be a particularly historic event this year, as it will be played over the Old Course at St. Andrews. This marks the first time a women's professional event has been played there. Sherri Steinhauer will try to defend her title. So far this year, Steinhauer has four top-10 finishes in 16 events, with earnings of $330,638. She ranks 15th in greens in regulation, 17th in eagles and 20th in driving accuaracy.
